Welcome to Old Nan’s Needles, a Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones craft blog. One day, I tried to find a pattern for a “Winter is Coming” scarf and realized that the crafting community hadn’t really embraced ASoIaF yet. There were crafts, but not a lot, and no central repository for the crafts that were out there. Thus, Old Nan’s Needles was born.

  1. Hi Elissa — stumbled upon your blog and I love it! I thought I’d let you know that I’ve done a fabric design of House Sigils, and I’ve put it up on Spoonflower for people to buy a yard or two of their own. My sister-in-law made me a pillowcase; there’s a photo of that further down on the page. Here’s the link: http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/846615

Great idea for a blog! I made a direwolf puppet earlier this year for my Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/pkfridley) but it’s already sold.

  2. Hi, I saw your Winter is Coming scarf and i was wondering, if you made another one how much would you sell it for? When I saw it I loved it and am trying to make one but I only just learnt the basics of knitting a few days ago. I really want to make one for my friend (who is convinced she is in House Stark) but I don’t think I’ll be anywhere near done by Christmas and I really want one for her as it’d be a perfect gift (she is obsessed with the show and books), I understand if you wouldn’t and thanks for reading this anyway šŸ™‚

    • Hey Robyn, I’m not too far from being a novice myself (only a couple of years on and off), and I’m still a pretty slow knitter, so I’m not sure I would be able to get it done before Christmas either! I poked around a little bit and there is someone on Etsy selling a similar scarf (http://www.etsy.com/listing/106966663/stark-scarf-winter-is-coming-grey-and). Or as another option, you could stop by your local knitting store and see if they can offer any tips, or know someone who would be able to take a commission (and I am going to try to finish up the pattern so it’s actually readable and I can put it up). But if all else fails, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. If you have any questions, you can email me at oldnansneedles at gmail. Good luck!

      • Thank you!! I am determined to make it and others for the other houses but it may take a long time (I can only do a knit stitch with one colour at this point) so for now I’ll see if I can get the one on Etsy, if not then they’ll have to be patient and wait for next Christmas šŸ™‚
